Avoid Mistakes When You Learn Guitar Scales

When you learn guitar scales, it can be both a frustrating and an overwhelming experience if you do not know what to avoid. If you are at a point where you are getting ready to learn guitar scales, avoiding the following common mistakes can make the experience much easier and less stressful for you.

The first mistake you should avoid is trying to learn too many scales at one time. The best way to go about learning is to learn one at a time and move along at a steady pace. If you try to learn even two at the same time, you are setting yourself up for failure, frustration, and stress.

Another mistake is not knowing how many scales to learn. There is no single answer that is the right answer. The number of scales you should learn depends on the music you like. Choose scales based on the type of music you plan to play. Learning a long list of scales is a mistake because after all the effort you put into learning them, you may never use some of them.

The final mistake to avoid is learning through repetition. This is the worst way to learn something. Learn scales by playing your favorite riffs and guitar solos that are based on the scales you are learning. A great exercise is to learn how to play a solo on one scale, and then figure out how to play it on a different scale. You will learn easier this way.
